Schema Studio templates and inheritance

Table of Contents

For Schema Studio 0.9.5. Reviewed October 10, 2026. Review tested versions, exclusions and limitations.

Reuse templates without hard-coding every page

Reuse the graph structure while titles, URLs, dates and images resolve separately for each target page.

  1. Open Templates and edit the template. Inspect its existing rules and graph.
  2. Open the studio and use Graph and Fields & Sources.
  3. Select real sample content. Bind values that should vary by page.
  4. Read the preview scope: a template preview is partial and excludes other templates and page-specific nodes.
  5. Set availability for manual selection separately from automatic matching.
  6. Use narrow matching rules and explicit exclusions. Review priority where templates overlap.
  7. Close the studio, click WordPress Update and reload.
  8. Inspect an intended page, an excluded page and a page with a direct override. Validate complete page graphs and public output.

An outside reference can be informational in a partial template preview. The full page must still contain or legitimately reference the intended subject. Inspect the full graph before treating this as a defect.

Keep direct overrides intentional. Explicit inherited-property removal is outside scope: leaving a field blank does not necessarily remove a template property. Complex matching combinations need verification for your configuration.
